Md. Afzal Karim (CEO & Managing Director, Sonali Bank Limited) now visiting USA official purpose. In the meantime he has visited Chef Khalilur Rahman restaurant on 17th May evening and enjoyed dinner with the him (owner & CEO of the restaurant). They have discussed a long time about agricultural business development in Bangladesh and export markets.
Md. Adzal has shown interest and told Sonali bank will support for new investors of these sectors. Before this meeting Mr. Afzal Karim visited earlier the restaurant but Mr. Khalilur Rahman was not available. So Mr. Rahman feels sorry and again specially invited him to show his respect to Mr. Karim to take dinner with him. Mr. Rahman feeling proud to get him in his restaurant to honour him.

| Md. Afzal Karim has joined at state owned Sonali Bank Limited as CEO and Managing Director on 28 August, 2022. He was appointed to this position by the consent of GoB provided through the letter dated 14 August 2022 of Financial Institutions Division, Ministry of Finance. Prior to his new assignment, he served Bangladesh House Building Finance Corporation (BHBFC) in the capacity of Managing Director.He had previously worked as Deputy Managing Director of Sonali Bank Limited and Bangladesh Krishi Bank respectively. Mr. Karim was only awarded the Integrity Award among all MD’s and CEO’s of Banks and Financial Institutions under Financial Institution Division, Ministry of Finance for 2021-2022 financial year in recognition of his honesty and efficiency.Having 35 years of diversified experience in banking and other organizations, Md. Afzal Karim started his career at Bangladesh House Building Finance Corporation as Senior Principal Officer in 1995 and later on served as Deputy General Manager and General Manager (Current Charge) in BHBFC and General Manager of Bangladesh Krishi Bank with the responsibilities of various departments. Before joining BHBFC, he worked for eight years in various responsible positions in four other domestic and foreign organizations including government institution.He obtained BSC in Mechanical Engineering from Khulna University of Engineering and Technology. He also obtained Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Management (PGDIM) from Bangladesh Institute of Management (BIM) and MBA (Major in Finance & Banking). He participated in various training courses, seminars and workshops on banking activities held at home and abroad and travelled to various countries including Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Italy. |
